New Online Academy Partnership

Melbourne Girls Grammar is pleased to announce a new partnership with Global Online Academy (GOA).

GOA is an international consortium of leading independent schools that unites behind a common mission: to reimagine learning to empower students and educators to thrive in a globally networked society. This partnership represents is an exciting opportunity for MGGS to join a global learning community committed to providing high-quality online learning experiences for students and teachers.

The partnership with GOA will give our Senior Years students a wider choice of courses to opt into, giving them the chance to learn in a highly collaborative, global learning community to help build skills for life beyond the red brick walls. The academy is closely aligned with the School’s Senior Years program’s philosophy of choice and challenge and will give students options for taking on additional courses, allowing them to dive deeper into specific areas of interest or learn about a topic they have not been exposed to before. Students can take courses in topics areas such as English, Science, Art and Design, Finance and Business, Psychology, Computer Science, Society and Engineering.

The quality offering of global professional learning for our staff and exceptional courses for our Grammarians is something we cannot wait to jump into this exciting opportunity. We look forward to becoming part of GOA’s global learning community and joining such an outstanding consortium of schools from around the world. — Lauren Sayer, Executive Director, Research and Innovation

Global Online Academy will also give our students the opportunity to work virtually alongside teachers and peers from member schools around the world. There are more than 125 high-performing independent schools in the consortium, representing over 30 countries. Whilst GOA offers a variety of courses, with differing levels of commitment, most of the courses are 15 weeks long and require a substantial commitment from students. The initial first four courses on offer for our students are all short courses and will run during Term 2. The online courses are a combination of synchronous and asynchronous (individual and group work) sessions and are designed to be as challenging and as interactive as courses at MGGS. This is really important for our school as we know our students enjoy the pleasure of the rigour and to be challenged. We look forward to seeing them work hard on these new courses and learn from new experts and peers from around the world.

GOA is not just for our students. It will also enable our teachers to become part of an expanded network of outstanding educators and to participate in dynamic, ongoing professional development. As a member school, MGGS will be able to connect its faculty with colleagues around the globe who will share best practices and discuss new ideas that transform classrooms and deepen the learning experience for our Grammarians.

Given the shared values around quality teaching and rigorous standards, we know GOA courses maintain the high standards of quality of which we are proud of. We look forward to a long partnership with Global Online Academy.
