Boarding House Life

At our Boarding House in Melbourne, we provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which students can reach their full potential in all areas of school life.

Boarding House Activities

A boarding school experience at Melbourne Girls Grammar allows for opportunities that students would otherwise not necessarily have access to, including extensive variety in the disciplines of drama, music, sport, and social events.

Team sports are a great way to engage in the MGGS community, make new friends and to stay fit and healthy. Most boarders participate in a sport during their time in the Boarding House.

The school offers GSV sports in which many boarding school students compete. The Saturday netball competition in Terms 2 and 3 is a popular pastime, as is rowing in Terms 4 and 1.

Girls can also choose to play basketball and tennis, or compete in athletics and swimming – squad sports that run all year round. Many fond memories are made at the traditional annual snow and surf trips.

The Boarding House offers so many opportunities that I would not have if I was living in Darwin and many amazing life experiences.

When I started boarding at the beginning of Year 10, I immediately felt a sense of belonging and inclusion, not only within my own year level but between all the year levels and the house mistresses.

As the only girls school located within the City of Melbourne, our boarders are fortunate to organise their own trips to the theatre, concerts, exhibitions and sporting events, as well as fun activities such as visiting local markets, going rock climbing or ice skating.

Boarders also have the opportunity to pursue various volunteering opportunities and to participate in fundraising events.

Girls are supported to access all of the opportunities provided within the huge scope of co-curricular programs as well as their own interests outside MGGS.

Life of a Boarding School Student

When you first start boarding, you’ll notice a lot of changes in your routine. Every boarder’s experience is different but each and every one of you has the power to create your own personal boarding journey.
