Term Dates

The academic year is broken into four terms (two semesters). The year commences in late January/ early February and ends in early December. Each term is approximately 9 or 10 weeks with holiday breaks at the end of each term. These coincide with key milestones including Christmas, Easter, the seasonality of Melbourne’s weather and our partner school Melbourne Grammar (boys). The VCAA set the dates for the VCE examinations each year and while MGGS, like other schools in Victoria, don’t publish these, we take this into consideration when planning the end of Term 3 holiday break.​​

​​At each term break, the MGGS Boarding House closes for maintenance works and residents are required to return home. This enables them to reconnect with families and loved ones, travel interstate or abroad, and have a well-deserved break from the routines of the 8.30am – 3.30pm school day. This applies to both our regional and international boarders.
