MGGS Garners Praise at Asia Pacific’s Largest Education Expo

Melbourne Girls Grammar (MGGS) Principal Catherine Misson and Chief Digital Officer Mary-Lou O’Brien have just wrapped up a whirlwind trip to Sydney to present at EduTECH — the largest education event held in the Asia Pac/Southern Hemisphere region. The event attracted around 8,000 attendees and Mrs Misson and Ms O’Brien were among just over 200 thought leaders invited to speak at the prestigious event.

Mrs Misson shared her insights on ‘equipping students for the digital age’. In her presentation, she articulated her holistic approach to the Senior Years Program and how MGGS senior girls are encouraged to balance all aspects of their academic lives and their overall wellbeing, along with their enterprise interests and physical pursuits.

In her presentation, delivered to an engaged and enthusiastic audience of educators, Mrs Misson went on to highlight the online tools deployed to elevate and enhance the Senior Years Program. Student regulation and self-determination were key themes of Mrs Misson’s speech.

In summarising the expo experience, Mrs Misson described the response to her presentation as “overwhelmingly positive”. “I was delighted to have the opportunity to present at EduTECH,” Mrs Misson said. “We were surrounded by educators eager to learn more about how we are reframing the experience of school to complement the digital age in which our girls live and learn.”

MGGS Chief Digital Officer Mary-Lou O’Brien said the atmosphere at the expo was not only energising but encouraging. “These are exciting times,” she said. “In today’s society, digital developments are rapid and rigorous; at EduTECH, we engaged with many passionate educators who were keen to explore the innovations we’re undertaking at MGGS.”

Ms O’Brien’s comprehensive presentation was entitled ‘unwrapping digital personalisation’ and explored a student-centred style of learning where girls digitally document, track and monitor their progress online.

The significant MGGS presence at EduTECH follows on from two appearances at the National FutureSchools Expo, held in Melbourne in March.
