Celebrating MGGS Athlete Erin Garbler

MGGS student Erin Garbler recently competed in the World Para-Athletics Junior Championships in Switzerland. We are proud of Erin’s incredible achievements and would like to share her reflections on her wonderful experience below.

My experience of the 2017 Inaugural World Para-Athletics Junior Championships held in Nottwil, Switzerland was incredible.

I was thrilled to be one of 12 athletes (and one of only four girls) who arrived in Switzerland for what was set to be a life-changing week. Outside of training we attended seminars on the Paralympic Movement, and Having a Dual Career in and out of Sport. We also swam in the local lake surrounded by picturesque mountain views, made friends with athletes from other countries, and of course, competed.

To all the younger girls reading this, let me say that if you have a dream, put everything you have into it, because if you want it badly enough, you CAN get there one day!

I competed in the 100m and 200m T35-38 Girls U18 sprint events. I’m so pleased to now be ranked as 3rd in the world in the T36 category and 8th overall in the 200m and 10th overall in the 100m!  Wearing the ‘Green and Gold’ has always been a life goal for me, so I was exceptionally proud to represent my family, MGGS, Victoria and Australia.

To all the younger girls reading this, let me say that if you have a dream, put everything you have into it, because if you want it badly enough, you CAN get there one day!

Needless to say, I had an absolute blast making friends, competing, and learning things that I could have only learnt through such a wonderful opportunity. Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their support – I certainly couldn’t have done it without you!
