Meet Annabel
Students at Melbourne Girls Grammar are bold, courageous and dynamic, ready to meet the future head on. They define their own path through the choices they make and the opportunities they embrace.
ANNABEL: ACAdemic adventurer
Annabel started at MGGS in Year 3. From Morris Hall, she went to Wildfell (Years 5 and 6) and is at Merton Hall, loving all the opportunities afforded to her as a St Hilda’s student (Year 7).
Annabel is a bright and enthusiastic student who thrives in an environment that fosters academic excellence and encourages personal growth through challenge. A conscientious and curious learner, Annabel approaches school with a genuine passion for learning. Her favourite subjects include Maths, English (both reading and writing), and PE. She is particularly fond of the challenges in Maths, always eager to explore new concepts and solve complex problems.
Annabel loves the opportunity to use her imagination and get lost in fictious places and to meet new characters. Whether she is reading a gripping story or writing her own narrative, the constant discovery of new vocabulary and ways to improve her creative writing is what she enjoys most. Beautiful books and poems are things she holds close to her heart.
“My schoolwork is tailored to fit my needs and to challenge me. The learning is engaging as well as enjoyable and everyone is just so nice!”
Annabel is a thoroughly engaged student, who’s always looking for ways to get involved. In Year 6, together with some fellow Wildfell students, she formed an editorial committee tasked with writing articles for Messenger, the School’s fortnightly newsletter. She’s also a talented flautist who has been part of ensembles such as the concert band, performing at the Merton Hall Music Concert and other big events like Speech Night at the Melbourne Town Hall.

Annabel comes from a snowsports family and is passionate about skiing. She trains rigorously in the Australian ski season and has represented MGGS at the state and national level in Alpine and Ski Cross events. Annabel says she loves being exposed to many sports through school. She’s currently part of the Netball program and Athletics.
Annabel’s passion for sport and pushing herself to face new challenges is evident in everything she does. She loves the feeling of belonging that comes from competing side-by-side with her peers and life at MGGS.
“I love so many things about MGGS but what I find extremely special is the overwhelming sense of community and belonging.”
When asked what she would give a speech on if given a chance, Annabel says it would be on learning, saying she finds it so powerful and she absolutely loves the process of discovery. She feels that MGGS has given her the tools to push herself, step outside her comfort zone, and truly understand the world around her.
When she leaves school, Annabel aims to utilise the many facets of the broad education she has undertaken and will refine in the senior years to make a positive impact and meaningful contribution in the world. Her curiosity about different cultures drives her desire to continue learning languages, particularly French and German, which she hopes will allow her to travel the world and broaden her perspective.
Annabel is a wonderful example of the inspiring students at MGGS, and her journey is just beginning. With her passion for learning, her love of sport, and her drive to make a difference, there’s no telling what amazing things she will achieve in the future.
