Leaving a Bequest
Leaving a bequest to Melbourne Girls Grammar is a meaningful way to make a lasting impact, supporting future generations of students and the School’s ongoing growth.
What is the best way to leave a gift in my Will to Melbourne Girls Grammar?
There are several ways that you can make a bequest to Melbourne Girls Grammar and leave a lasting gift for girls’ education.
- A residual bequest – after you have made provisions for your family and loved ones, a percentage of the residual amount can be directed to Melbourne Girls Grammar.
- A specific bequest – a specific bequest, such as money, property, or shares.
- Gifts in Kind – Melbourne Girls Grammar will gratefully receive a range of non-monetary gifts, commonly referred to as Gifts in Kind. Examples of Gifts in Kind include real estate, artwork, special equipment, and other tangible personal property.
Certain types of bequests may be subject to additional taxes on your estate and should be considered when preparing a Will. We would be pleased to discuss with you or your solicitor when considering a bequest of this nature.
How will my gift be used at Melbourne Girls Grammar?
Your support helps our continued progression as a school, ensuring we are continually recognised as an international leader in girls’ education. The School will work with you directly to ensure that the funds are allocated to support an area of the school of your choice. This can be through supporting specific buildings and projects, funding of scholarships or alternatively to the Merton Hall Foundation, to apply funds to areas of greatest need.
How can I ensure my gift will be used to support a specific project of my choice at Melbourne Girls Grammar?
If you choose to support a specific area of the school, you are encouraged to let us know by speaking to our Development Co-ordinator who can advise you on current and upcoming projects and how you might support them through your gift. You are also invited to consider a friend or family member who we can communicate with once your gift is released. We will ensure to maintain regular contact with them and will provide updates on how your gift is being honoured.
How should I word my bequest to Melbourne Girls Grammar in my Will?
When leaving a gift in your Will to the School, it is strongly advised to do so in consultation with your solicitor. This will ensure that specific components of your bequest are included and directed to the correct fund.
I have left a gift to the School in my Will, what next?
You have the choice to keep your gift confidential or advise the school. We encourage you to notify the school by contacting our Development Office, so that the School can express its appreciation. We will then work with you to ensure that your gift is honoured in line with your wishes.
