Esther joined the MGGS community in Year 7. Esther’s favourite thing about MGGS is the relationships that she has been fortunate enough to form with her friends and teachers and the memories she has made that will “stay with [her] well into [her] adult years.” She says, “while school has been about learning academically, it’s been as much, to [her], about learning to communicate and [work in] a team around and alongside others.”
Esther has chosen to study Drama, Literature, English Language, Legal Studies and Latin in VCE. Esther chose to complete Drama in Year 11 because she knew it would “benefit [her], in the sense that [she] knew…[she] would devote a lot of time to it, both consciously and unconsciously,” because she has a passion for performing and hopes to pursue a career in it, and because it would “[allow her] to spend more time focusing on [her] other subjects” during Year 12. She comments that her Literature and Drama studies have, to a degree, come hand-in-hand, encouraging her love of Shakespeare and instinctive analytical tendencies in different ways.
Esther is no stranger to being short of time, and after five years of a heavy load of co-curriculars–including sport, productions, debating, multiple School choirs, and Stella Literary Society–she thinks that being busier “in some ways makes it easier, to know what to do with the time [she does] have.” She has learned to schedule her activities in different parts of the year, so she won’t commit to sport or debating during a certain term when she knows she’ll be preoccupied with drama rehearsals, for example.
Esther dreams of pursuing a career in acting and can see herself at drama school and perhaps continuing her study of Literature at the University of Melbourne into the future.
