Wonderful Student Music Achievements

Congratulations to Hannah S. (Year 11) for her recent performance in the Australian showcase at the Sydney International Piano Competition. Hannah performed a Chopin Etude and Nocturne as part of the celebrations for round two of the main competition, and her performance was streamed live around the world and broadcast nationally on ABC Classic FM.

Congratulations also to Lilian V. (Viola, Year 8) who participated in this year’s Border Music Camp held in Albury. Lilian was awarded the Marcel Lieber Memorial Award, demonstrating the fine ensemble skills and dedication which she brings to the Music program at Merton Hall. Lilian had the following to say about this event:

“Border Music Camp has been my annual sanctuary for the last five years. Every year I ride a train up to Albury, in New South Wales, to play music in an orchestra (or band) with a bunch of equally music-y souls who share my passion. This year for the first time I was put in the Davis Symphony Orchestra, which was really exciting for me because not only did it have a fully equipped string ensemble at the ready, but a few band members were allowed to join (it’s a tradition) and the results were amazing. BMC is my favourite week of the year and it’s been a great experience for me.”
