Welcoming Terrie Jones as the 13th Principal of Melbourne Girls Grammar

Melbourne Girls Grammar is delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Terrie Jones as its new Principal, following an extensive national and international search. She will commence as the 13th Principal of Melbourne Girls Grammar at the beginning of Term 1, 2027. Guided by the Council and informed by stakeholders across our community, the selection process has centred on identifying a leader who embodies our values, aspirations and vision for the future.

Mrs Jones is currently the Principal of Canberra Girls Grammar School, a leading Early Learning to Year 12 Day and Boarding school in the nation’s capital. During her tenure at CGGS, the School has achieved the best academic results in 18 years, including the Dux of the ACT twice, experienced significant enrolment growth, and celebrated its Centenary.

Mrs Jones has previously held the positions of Head of St Michael’s Grammar School in Melbourne, Deputy Principal, Head of Learning Innovation at Ravenswood School for Girls in Sydney, and Director of Service Learning at Abbotsleigh. She started her teaching career in the NSW Government School sector before commencing her career in independent girls’ schools with roles at Methodist Ladies’ College in Melbourne and at Pymble Ladies’ College.

Mrs Jones is drawn to leading schools that are committed to achieving excellent results, have a strong ethos of pastoral care and a clear vision for the future. In accepting the position, Mrs Jones has stated her strong commitment to nurturing each student’s potential and ensuring our tradition of excellence in girls’ education continues to thrive.

“I am honoured to be appointed as the Principal of Melbourne Girls Grammar, an extraordinary school with a strong community and exemplary reputation as a leader in the education of girls and young women. I look forward to working with the incredibly talented staff to support every student to discover their intellectual and interpersonal gifts so that they are empowered and ready to shape a purposeful future.”

Under Mrs Jones visionary leadership, we look forward to building on our proud heritage while embracing new opportunities for innovation and growth in our fast-changing world. We are confident Mrs Jones will lead Melbourne Girls Grammar to honour our extensive heritage, and chart an exciting path forward, one that will inspire the next generation of young women and ensure that our vibrant parent community and alumnae remain connected to our great school.

Our community will celebrate the outstanding contribution of our outgoing Principal, Dr Toni Meath, over the coming months before her retirement. Dr Meath and Mrs Jones will work closely, along with the School Council, and the Leadership Team to ensure a seamless transition as we continue our pursuit of excellence.
