Two Students Honoured at the Premier’s VCE Awards

We are so proud to celebrate that two MGGS students have recently been recognised at the 2025 Premier’s VCE Awards for their outstanding achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education.

Grace Perrett (Class of 2026) was recognised for excellence in Physical Education, while Cecilia Xu (Class of 2025) was recognised for excellence in English and Music Repertoire Performance.

Cecilia was also the School’s co-Dux, achieving an exceptional ATAR of 99.95. She has been accepted to Harvard University and will commence her studies there in August.

The Premier’s VCE Awards was held on Tuesday 21 July 2026, recognising the outstanding achievements of students who demonstrated exceptional dedication and academic excellence throughout their 2025 VCE studies.

Receiving a Premier’s Award for Physical Education was an honour, and it was a privilege to represent the School. The experience of being in a room with a diverse group of 339 students (receiving awards across 90 subjects) from many schools around Victoria all of whom have different journeys and stories, was something special.

While at one level this was an individual award, it made me reflect on the great tradition of academic success that we have at MGGS, on the impact of great teaching, and how the success across the whole cohort can be attributed to our teachers. Last year, I was lucky enough to have Ms Sharp who invested heavily in all of us. I know this happens across all subjects, but with Ms Sharp I experienced that teachers who are truly passionate about their teaching and who care deeply about our success have the greatest impact. Her enthusiasm was truly infectious and drove us all to seek enjoyment in learning and the process itself.

The main thing that will stick with me from my PE studies last year, is that to best learn and retain information you must apply it in your everyday life. For me, that meant that while rowing, playing footy, running and even exercising in the gym, I was constantly thinking about how the movements relate to PE concepts. How the energy systems were interacting, the biomechanics of each movement and even the different methods of coaching. That’s the lesson I took with me, and it is something I strive to do for all my subjects.
