The world of Little Women came to life at Southbank Theatre from 11 to 13 June 2026, as our Senior Years cast delivered three sold-out performances that had audiences laughing, crying and completely captivated. Set during the American Civil War and adapted by Marsha Norman from Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel, Little Women follows the journey of the March sisters as they navigate family, friendship, loss and ambition.

The journey to bringing Little Women to the stage was about so much more than the final performance. Throughout months of rehearsals, our Senior Years students formed meaningful friendships, supported one another through every challenge and worked together with dedication to create something truly special. The result was a captivating performance that reflected not only their talent, but also their resilience, teamwork and passion. Every cast member brought something unique to the stage, leaving audiences with a memorable performance and a reminder of what can be achieved when our young Grammarians believe in themselves and each other.

Reflecting on the choice of production, Cherie Hozinka – School Production Co-ordinator – said, “The choice of Little Women has emerged through student voice over the past couple of years.”

“In exploring possible productions, students were drawn to a story centered on young people navigating change, uncertainty and the transition into adulthood.”

Cherie also shared in her Director’s Note, ” A unique aspect of our production is the use of younger and older casts for the March sisters. This decision reflects the play’s interest in time and growth, allowing us to see the sisters at different stages of their lives.” 

“Being one of the oldest students involved this year gave me a very different perspective from previous productions. Rather than looking to older students for reassurance, I found myself in the position of offering encouragement, giving uplifting speeches, reminding everyone that everything would be okay, and helping to build confidence within the cast.” — Lily Ebbels Drama Captain.

This experience fosters character, leadership and service by providing students with the opportunity to give back to a program that has shaped their own journey. Through supporting younger MGGS cast members, students gain a valuable perspective on the dedication and mentorship that underpin our Senior Years Productions.

“We were lucky enough to experience a truly wonderful goodbye as the younger years gave heartfelt speeches that reduced us all to tears. Cards, speeches and tearful goodbyes concluded what will collectively be know as our most loved high school experience.” — Lily Ebbels, Drama Captain, and Xanthe O’Loan, School Captain.

Lily and Xanthe reflect on on how the “Drama department will be left in good hands”. Knowing this would be their final Senior Years Production, they made the most of every moment that unfolded. What they took away was the strong connection they were able to build with the younger students, which was the most important takeaway that our school connection.

Behind every great production is a dedicated team of educators. We are grateful to School Production Co-ordinator Cherie Hozinka, Director of Music Elizabeth du Blet, Head of Drama Victoria Page and Drama teachers Olivia Wilson and Naomi Fogliani, whose expertise, encouragement and commitment empowered our Grammarians to bring Little Women to life. Their leadership made this outstanding Senior Years Production a truly memorable experience for our School community.
