A warm welcome to Term 4! This is a big, busy and enjoyable term, and I look forward to the many events of celebration and culmination of the efforts of our Grammarians in 2025. From our first Merton Hall Assembly, Year 2 Assembly at Morris Hall, the 2026 SEC Inauguration and the Parents Association Family Picnic, the term has started with high energy.

Below is a beautiful collection of quotes from our ELC 4-year-old Wilmot group on their reflections of the rebuilding of our iconic red brick wall on Clowes Street. When we take time to listen to our youngest Grammarians, it ignites our imagination and creativity. They see their world through very fresh eyes! The whole conversation went a little like this:

The Red Brick Wall

Kylie: Why is this wall important? Why does it need to be fixed? 
Maddi: It got dusty and cracked and then it wasn’t strong anymore. 
Charlotte J: For us not to fall on the road. It protects us so we don’t go down and break. It helps us with our play. It keeps our balls inside. 
Millie: I can see the wall has different things inside it. The stones come from Mother Earth. Where is the black rock from? Look, there are little diamonds. 
Kylie: The black rock is called basalt and it is from volcanoes, a long time ago, volcanoes erupted and their lava flowed down towards Melbourne and cooled down and became hard basalt. 
Julia: The volcano rock made the wall strong. And calm. Then they’re silent.  
Aaricia: Yeah, the rocks are saying this is a quiet space. 
Eva: And the crystals say, I love you. 
Kylie: Why do the crystals say I love you?  
Eva: Because the wall protects us and keeps us safe. 
Allie: The wall is saying, “Come here, come on the racetrack and play.” 
Luna: The wall is saying to me, “Do you want to go swimming?” Some walls are swimming walls, like in a pool. Some walls are farm walls like to keep animals safe. 
Harriet: Inside the wall, where the crystals are, that’s the heart of the wall. 
Kylie: What’s in the heart of the wall? 
Grace: Stories. 
Emerald: Yeah, it tells stories of all the children that have played here for a long time. 
Luna: There might be lava in the heart of these rocks. 

The red brick walls tend to be a theme at this stage of year and they are woven into farewell speeches, student reflections, videos and of course our 2026 Anderson. We are beginning to farewell the Class of 2025 our message is always one of encouraging our Grammarians to step forward into the future with self-confidence and poise. Year 12 are focused and studying hard and I am so pleased with their attention to their Trial Examinations in the term break. They are a determined cohort, and we are witnessing a sense of collective volition as they prepare for their VCE Examinations. We are most fortunate to have so many VCE Examiners/Assessors at MGGS. I am looking forward to our annual Celebration of Sport evening tonight, and the opening of the Annual Art Exhibition on Wednesday, and the Middle Years Production of Charlotte’s Web next week. There is always so much happening, and I hope to see you at one of the events or at the gate!
