As November begins, the countdown to Speech Night and our beautiful Carol Service commences. Punctuated by the Melbourne Cup Weekend, the penultimate month of the year brings a series of celebrations and events when we acknowledge the wonderful achievements of our Grammarians and show gratitude for the amazing contributions of our staff, parents, auxiliaries and the Council to our Community.
Our Year 12 Grammarians are calmly stepping through their VCE examinations. Many of them have chosen to study at school and are making very good use of the silent workspaces available to them. Their final celebration will be the Valedictory Dinner at Zinc, Federation Square with parents and staff on Wednesday 19 November, which is the day when the Italian, French and Chinese written examinations are held. We are so proud of the way they are drawing on our School values of courage and self-discipline to tackle their studies and be the best that they can be.
Over the past fortnight there have been many transition activities at MGGS, with the Year 3 Camp, Year 5 Camp, Year 7 (2026) Orientation and Games Days, Prep Transition mornings and Prep to Year 4 Orientation Day for new students. These are important introductory sessions to help our students prepare to step up to the year ahead.
On Friday 31 October, we celebrated World Staff Day at MGGS with a special morning tea to thank all staff across the School whose passion and hard work make a real difference to students’ lives every day and continue to build a culture of care and community. The 2026 Student Executive Council actively supported the day by distributing special messages to their teachers on Post It notes and delivering ‘thank you’ cards. Our School Captains, Xanthe, Jemima and Katherine made a cameo appearance at our Full Staff Briefing to deliver a message of gratitude on a small blackboard, along with a celebratory trophy – The Staff Appreciation Award.
Their message to staff:
Happy Teacher Appreciation Day! We appreciate all the effort, encouragement and positivity you bring to our School every day. Your guidance has made a real difference in so many of our lives and your support at MGGS means the world. With heartfelt thanks, from the SEC.
As Speech Night approaches, we urge all parents to take note of the reminder about uniform requirements issued before the long weekend. Please note that the summer uniform length should be just above the knee and not shorter than the blazer. If we continue to have concerns about a particular student’s uniform, we will be contacting their parents directly. We appreciate your support in helping to ensure that our students continue to represent our School with pride.
Today, our Year 6 students flew out to spend a week exploring Canberra and we wish them safe travels and lots of exciting experiences.
Tomorrow is Remembrance Day, a day when we honour the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty. Lest we forget.
Every good wish for all that lies ahead…
