Week 4 is National Boarding Week and MGGS is proud to have a vibrant and thriving boarding community that welcomes students from regional Victoria, interstate and overseas. At each School reunion, we can always tell the past boarders as they are a tight-knit group of enthusiastic (and usually loud) OGs who gravitate together and know each other really, really well.

Today’s Years 5–12 assembly celebrated all that our boarders bring to the School and enabled them to share their ‘Echoes of Home’ in photos and beautiful artworks, along with an entertaining video showing glimpses of life within Phelia Grimwade and Gilman Jones Houses. This week, the boarders will stand out with their bright pink hair ribbons and flamingo socks. We thank them for helping us to understand a little about what home is like and to broaden our perspectives ‘in and for the world’.

Our Year 8 Grammarians returned from camp in the Grampians/Gariwerd on Friday, sharing stories of resilience and camaraderie. They endured strong winds and cool temperatures, but managed to hike, problem solve and survive the overnight hike and sleep out with grit and good humour. We look forward to hearing what they have learned from their time in the bush.

On Friday 1 May, we were delighted to host the Walk for Women at MGGS. This event was led by our Community and Environment Captains (Sophie and Skye), who collaborated with the SEC and leaders from Melbourne Grammar to promote participation. Everyone gathered at the Amphitheatre, enjoyed the musical entertainment from Daisy and Lars, before students and staff from both schools walked The Tan together to raise money for ‘Impact for Women’. The sausage sizzle and bake sale were greatly appreciated at the end of the walk.

A small group of Years 7 and 9 students attended the 94th Legacy Anzac Memorial Service at the Shrine on 5 May. They laid a wreath and represented the School, wearing their uniforms with pride. It was very special to see that some of them were able to proudly wear their family medals on their blazers.

Last week, there was a special focus on showing our love and appreciation for our mothers, with the Morris Hall Mother’s Day stall run by a group of Dads, the ELC 3 and 4 Year Old Mother’s Day breakfasts and the Morris Hall Mother’s Day breakfast.

The MGGS Mother’s Day lunch at Metropolis at Southbank was very well attended and provided a wonderful opportunity for catching up, sharing memories and stories and networking amongst the mothers, mother figures and staff who were able to attend.

I trust that yesterday was also a very special day for all the mothers in our community.

Every good wish for all that lies ahead,
