History of Merton Hall Rowing Club
Due
primarily to Melbourne Girls Grammar’s central location, close proximity to
the Yarra River and the Princes Bridge boat sheds, rowing has been offered
as an co-curricular sport since 1980.
The
School was one of the original group of schools that implemented the Head
of the Schoolgirls Regatta and has also successfully hosted the regatta on
two occasions in 1994 and 2001.
In
recent years the number of girls rowing has grown significantly from fifty
in 1996 to more than 100 in 2008. This expansion, alongside the development
of the rowing program has resulted in significant title wins at Head of the
Schoolgirls Regatta – eighteen victories in nine years.
