Senior School life is stimulating,
varied and challenging, and develops tomorrow people today.
Life as
a Senior School student at MGGS is academically rigorous: Years 10, 11 and
12 embrace the VCE years, which for most students lead on to tertiary
studies.
Within
a supportive structure, Senior students are provided with greater control
over their own learning through their choice of subjects, and the
responsibility they are given both within and outside of the classroom. A
broad range of studies is offered at the VCE level, enabling preparation
for a multitude of post secondary pathways, either in further study at
tertiary level, or in the world of work.

The
learning is academically rigorous, varied and increasingly specialised with
expectations for creative and original thinking. In place are clear
requirements for lesson attendance, punctuality, adherence to deadlines and
completion of work. Senior students are provided with greater control over
their own learning through their choice of subjects, and the responsibility
they are given to determine how best to use their ‘spare lessons’.
Parallel
to academic life in the Senior School is a wealth of leadership, sporting,
cultural and service activities. Senior students provide the leadership and
initiatives for House activities such as gymnastics, music, drama and
debating, as well as athletics, cross-country and swimming competitions.
At
MGGS, both broad participation and elite performance are encouraged in
sport. Girls can choose from tennis, rowing, hockey, netball, basketball,
snowsports, golf, football, diving, water polo, athletics, swimming,
gymnastics and cross-country. Qualities of co-operation, team spirit and
commitment are fostered, along with an appreciation of personal fitness.
High
levels of artistic achievement are attained in the annual senior drama
production, music concert, art exhibition and the biennial music tour.
Students
are given a collective voice to discuss aspects of school life, and a means
of constructively contributing to school decision-making through an elected
Student Executive Council, and participation in a range of other leadership
opportunities.
Senior
School life is stimulating, varied and challenging, so that students are
‘opportunity ready’ to face the challenges that lie ahead as socially
responsible young women who can be confident of their own talents and
capabilities.
The Senior School team of Co-ordinators and House Tutors is led by the Director of Students: Senior School, who makes it a priority to address the needs of the senior students.
