Melbourne Girls Grammar is owned by an incorporated company called Melbourne Girls Grammar – an Anglican school.

The company that owns the School is a public company limited by guarantee and has a membership of approximately forty people who are broadly representative of the School community. Each of the various stakeholder groups in the School community have appointed members to that company and it is those members who at each Annual General Meeting receive the annual report and elect the Council members or directors.

In the absence of crisis, the company members meet once a year at the Annual General Meeting. These arrangements give the School autonomy and a solid structure for the future. As directors of the public company, Council members will come under the onerous obligations of the Corporations Law and Council has appointed a Governance Sub-Committee to ensure that all appropriate good governance arrangements are in place.
