MOGs Mission Statement
To
offer an opportunity for MGGS leavers to continue playing netball after
school, on both a competitive and social level in a club that offers fun
for all skill levels and a fantastic social network!
MOGs Netball Club
The
Melbourne Old Girls Netball Club’s primary objective is to provide an
avenue for young, healthy and active girls to continue playing netball in a
social and competitive club after leaving the School network.
MOGS is
Melbourne’s fastest growing netball organisation with sixty registered
playing members joining in the first season. This is bound to increase as
momentum is gained, awareness is generated and enthusiasm grows!
The
Club is open to ALL girls aged eighteen+ years who are past students or
have some association with Melbourne Girls Grammar. Joining the Club
provides players with not only a well organised netball association but
also a fantastic social network to embrace through our events, many of
which are in conjunction with the Old Melburnians Football Club.
The Old Melburnians Football Club (est 1920) has been incredibly supportive
in launching the MOGs. Both Clubs are keen to develop a long term
relationship, initially through joint social functions and operational
support. This affiliation will undoubtedly benefit both parties through
fostering relationships between playing groups, raising club profiles
through the wider school communities and generating a wider support
network. The opportunity for an ’on field’ relationship is not out of the
question with many expressing interest in a mixed netball competition.
Competition
The
MOGs are currently playing in the Prahran Netball Association - see www.prahrannetball.com.au for
fixtures.
Along with the Prahran Netball Association, MOGs has also had a few
teams join VAFA Netball Association. VAFA has taken initiative to help
create, support and include netball teams under their banner and with this
came the creation of the VAFA Netball Association.
The Association is made up girls within family and friends of the
associated VAFA football clubs. There are no formal eligibility criteria to
play for one of the teams, which is reflective of the general social nature
of the competition. The model is not dissimilar to many sporting clubs in
country areas of Victoria. Two seasons of VAFA Netball have been very
successful.
The social and sporting integration as well as the networking
opportunities for the netballers is the idea of the competition.
You can find MOGs Netball Group and also become a fan of VAFA
Netball Association Page on Facebook.
