Our
Middle School curriculum is broad and rich, catering for individual
differences and enabling students to discover areas of interest and talent.
The semesterisation of some core subjects ensures consistency and depth of
study in each discipline so that students learn the essential skills and
concepts that are unique to each subject. A regular review of our Middle
School curriculum ensures that the subjects on offer are relevant and
appropriate to our students’ needs.
Students
are encouraged to explore the cultural differences in our world through the
study of Languages Other Than English. The choice of a range of semester
length elective studies at Year 9 provides students with the opportunity to
make sensible, well-informed decisions about their studies and to take
greater control of their learning.
Where
appropriate, the use of technology and multimedia resources are
incorporated across the curriculum. Sensible risk taking is encouraged in
classroom learning and through co-curricular activities such as sport,
music, debating and drama.
Students
develop skills in independence, interdependence, leadership and
responsibility by participating in challenging and practical activities
within the classrooms, in specialist teaching areas and off campus. The
introduction of the Body, Mind and Spirit course enables our Middle School
students to continue their learning outside of the School environment and
allows for further development of problem solving, life skills and
spirituality. This course is focused on leading the students towards
developing an understanding of self and a thoughtful membership of the
School and Global communities.
The Director
of Students: Middle School leads a group of energetic and dedicated Year
Level Coordinators and House Tutors who understand and acknowledge the
intrinsic qualities and particular needs of this important age group.
