The
Merton Hall Wing of classrooms was built in 1900, opened in 1901 and
extended to its present limit in 1919. Today, it is a red brick fixture of
the Merton Hall landscape. The Wing features in the 1924 Arthur Streeton painting,
‘Culture and Commerce’, proudly displayed in Phelia Grimwade Drawing Room.
The
Merton Hall Wing is a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and functional
wing of classrooms that provides ready access to the latest in technology
and flexibility in the organisation of teaching spaces. Each classroom
features high speed internet and intranet connection and is fitted with
data projectors and whiteboards, further enhancing our 21st century
approach to teaching girls.
The
Wing incorporates special purpose teaching spaces for Languages Other than
English and Business Studies, as well as storage areas and new staff work
rooms and offices. Reverse cycle air conditioning is provided in all classrooms.
Recent extensions to the corridors on the first and second levels have
enable the creation of spacious and secure, centrally located locker areas
for students.
On the
ground floor, there is a new seminar room to accommodate lectures, briefing
sessions and meetings for up to sixty people which can be used by students,
community groups and staff.
