Music
The Music School built in 1997 has proved to be the centre of our
community of Musicians.
The ten individual teaching rooms, including one especially designed
for percussion lessons, allow the thirty visiting music teachers to work in
a supportive and collegiate environment.
The orchestral studio was acoustically developed for instrumental
groups and seats the orchestra which has about sixty-five members. It also
has a mixing board and speakers for use with the singers in the Jazz band.

The Choral Studio is a much loved space which provides an excellent
acoustic for voices and is much appreciated by the five different choral
groups that rehearse each week.
The two classrooms have keyboards that are used with the girl’s
laptop computers as well as a wide variety of classroom percussion
instruments.
There is also a music library and offices for the full time staff.
Visual Arts
The Art program at Melbourne Girls Grammar is designed
around our open plan studios. Each studio supports a specialist art form.
The three large open plan studios have specialist facilities in
Ceramics and Sculpture, Painting, Drawing and Printmaking, Textile design
and printing. There is an additional darkroom and teaching space as well as
a Graphic and Visual Design studio with desktop computer and printing
facilities.
The Painting and Graphic Design studios have areas for senior
students to work on folio work as an additional studio space. As MGGS is a
notebook school the art studios have some facilities for network
connections for student notebooks. There are AV facilities in the Graphic
Design studio.
As the students progress through to Year 12 the students elect an
Art subject from one of the following areas: Painting & Printmaking,
Graphic and Visual Design, Photography & Digital Imaging, Sculpture and
Ceramics.
The Art Department comprises of a group of specialist teachers in
Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Design and Textiles. Additional courses
are taught in Life Drawing and Photography.
