Christine Briggs Building - Facilities

The Christine Briggs Building (CBB) is a state-of-the-art Science, Mathematics and English teaching facility. Each teaching space has a data projector with inputs ranging from laptop to DVD, CD, VCR, video microscope and interactive whiteboard. All this allows seamless transition between different media to enhance the learning of the students. All classrooms are fully networked to enable easy access to the high speed network to enable the utilisation of the student laptops.

Science

The Science floors comprise eight Laboratories, three preparation rooms, three laboratory technicians' offices and a number of withdrawal areas. In each laboratory there are work benches for twenty-four students around the edge of the room with a wet area surface and in the centre of the room a carpeted teaching area with student desks.

Mathematics

There are four Mathematics classrooms in the CBB. Mathematics specific software and the facility to project onto the white board allows visual displays of graphs, geometric diagrams and the like which enhance the learning of the students.

Two of the classrooms can be opened up into one large space suitable for students to work across classes on project work or for activities such as mathematics competitions, mathematical games and mathematical recreational pursuits.

Attached to the Mathematics Office there is a small classroom which is used for one on one or small group teacher student consultation. At Years 7 and 8 Support staff are timetabled here to assist students in a variety of ways. At lunchtimes, one of the larger classrooms becomes a help centre where students come for assistance with any mathematical matter.

On display throughout the Mathematics corridor and its connecting classrooms, are pieces of artwork which have a mathematical theme and that have been produced by artists with a connection to MGGS.

English

The English floor of the CBB offers four classroom spaces designed to offer maximum flexibility for the teaching and learning of the various English subjects.

Twenty-five individual lightweight student desks and chairs fit comfortably in these large spaces; therefore, the configuration of the classroom set up can be easily altered from straight rows to small group or board room style discussion models.

Each classroom is fitted with floor boxes to enable power and internet connectivity to individual students; in addition AV equipment resides in a mobile module which can be easily positioned to facilitate learning in whatever aspect of the room such support is required. Each classroom also includes a breakout space where students can sit at a bench for individual work or small group discussions.

The English Faculty resource centre and the Head of English office is also located on this floor. A wall screen computer and keyboard situated outside E6 offers the school community a chance to become part of a real audience for the work that English students produce in their classes. The wall screen thus also provides a mini history of the way that the ICTs have been used in English classrooms over the years to enhance teaching and learning.
