The
newly refurbished and extended Early Learning Centre is situated adjacent
to the Senior School campus. The ELC consists of five flexible learning
spaces or classrooms. The number of children in each room is limited to eighteen.
Each
room incorporates a studio space and has an adjoining outdoor area allowing
teachers to implement an indoor and outdoor learning program.
The
resources in the Centre’s
studios, rooms and outdoor spaces are designed to support and promote each
child’s love of learning, offering endless possibilities for creativity,
imagination and representation.
Each
group of children has a full time Early Childhood teacher, a full-time
Early Childhood qualified assistant teacher and a part-time assistant.
Our
everyday learning program integrates music, movement, dance, drama and the
visual arts. Specialist teachers in Italian, drama, music and physical
education conduct workshops for the children at the ELC each week. The
School's proximity to the Botanical Gardens allows the children to explore
this amazing natural resource and discover a whole new world.
The
children use the resources of the wider Melbourne Girls Grammar environment
as well. They visit the gymnasium, the library,
the science
laboratories, the Chapel
and the playing fields.
Our
Daily Diary captures the essence of a child’s day for parents and is a
wonderful record of how the children pose questions and solve problems.
There
are no uniform requirements at the ELC; however, girls may wear a school
uniform if they wish. We request that children wear suitable footwear for
climbing and playing. Hats are compulsory for outdoor play in the first
and last terms of each year.
