Our
Early Learning Centre (ELC) is a warm and welcoming learning environment
for three and four-year-old girls. Early learning has played an integral
role in the learning programs at Melbourne Girls Grammar since the 1940s.
Our ELC
is a special place where children are encouraged to grow in body, mind and
spirit. We offer children a secure and safe environment where curiosity is
encouraged, concepts are explored and discovery is celebrated. The
children experience the power of learning together in small and large
groups while still pursuing their own individual learning pathways.
We
recognise that through play, children experience social, emotional and
intellectual development. We value the spontaneity, creativity and a love
of learning that is generated through play.
Our
philosophy is based on the belief that children are capable of thinking
deeply and reflectively. Our teachers guide the children as they develop
and refine their knowledge and understanding through the exploration of
their ideas and experiences.
The
relationship that we build with our young students is founded upon respect
– for their thinking, their feelings and their right to be taken seriously.

|
We respect the children’s right to engage in a
learning program that recognises individual learning styles and
preferences.

|

|
We
believe that young children’s learning is essentially a social process
that involves listening, engagement, communication and reflection.

|
We
recognise that a high self esteem and a strong sense of belonging are
essential if optimal learning is to occur.
