Miss Nina Alison Crone, OAM was headmistress of Melbourne Girls Grammar School from 1975 to 1994.
As the ninth headmistress of our School, Nina Crone
presided over a time of great change in curriculum and teaching methods.
The physical environment of the School campus evolved with an extensive
building program, including the Library that now bears her name.

Garden Cuttings
Between 1982 and 1997, using the nom de plume Alison Dalrymple,
Miss Nina Crone penned numerous articles on plants, gardens and their
histories that were published in the pages of The Age newspaper.
The complete collection of articles and previously unpublished writings,
have been published in the beautifully illustrated book Garden
Cuttings, Articles for The Age by Nina Crone. All proceeds of book
sales go to the School for the establishment of the Nina Crone Prize
for Excellence in History.

Nina Crone Award for Australian Garden History Writing
To
commemorate Nina Crone’s contribution to the Australian Garden History
Society the Victorian Branch of the Society has created the Nina Crone
Award for Australian Garden History Writing. The award of $1,000.00
plus certificate of recognition will be given for an original article of
1000–1500 words relating to Australian garden history. The award is
open to students nationally and is intended to encourage new and emerging
scholars in the writing of Australian garden history and to recognize
excellence in such writing, in keeping with Nina’s commitment to education
and her love of history, plants and gardens.
