Careers Centre

The Careers Centre is open every day of the School week, with staff in attendance between 8.00am and 5.00pm on most days.

The Careers Centre is responsible for the management of the Work Experience Program which is undertaken by all students in Year 10 and by students in Years 11 and 12 as required.  The Careers Centre Library contains a significant collection of job related information including Vocational Education & Training, post-secondary study and more.

Course and subject choice counseling is provided to all students, at some levels as arranged by the staff, at other levels on request from the student or parent. Information regarding VCE assessment, scaling and the ENTER, and tertiary study entry requirements is available. Australia-wide information regarding further study options is maintained in the Careers Library.

Course and Career Planning interviews are undertaken with every student in Year 10. Year 9 students study job-seeking skills and undertake career development activities. An extensive video library also provides students with information on job search techniques and on particular careers, these can be viewed in the Careers Centre at lunchtimes or after school on request.

A ‘Careers e-Update’ Newsletter is produced fortnightly.

The Careers Expo is an annual event shared with Melbourne Grammar, with the venue alternating on a yearly basis between the two schools. It is a major undertaking with every effort made to have wide representation from each of the tertiary institutions in Victoria and employer groups represented. Some interstate and even overseas institutions are also represented. A large number of occupational areas are represented either through guest speakers or at information tables. It is generally held around the end of May.

The Careers Centre also makes Career Planning software available to students, which can be accessed through the Centre computers or through the link on students' laptops.
