Careers Voyage
Careers
Voyage is
a computer software program designed for use by students over the age of
fifteen. It stimulates them to think about job-related activities, their
likes and dislikes, their strengths and weaknesses by taking them through
programmed questions. It suggests areas of vocational interest which
students are encouraged to explore in more depth. It is self-paced and is
available to Melbourne Girls Grammar students using their laptops, or on
the computers in the Careers Centre. Students are encouraged to use the
results of this program as a basis for further discussion with the Careers
Counsellor.
My Future
The MY
FUTURE program is an interactive web-based program available to
all students for no charge and is a joint initiative of the Australian,
State and Territory Governments. Students can log into the ‘My Guide’
section of the site and build their own career planning profile. They can
also enter ‘The Facts’ section which offers an extensive range of information
on careers, education and training, work and employment, funding, and
further contacts.
My Guide
My
Guide is a
self-help tool which can be established and returned to by students as they
wish and is supported by comprehensive and up-to-date information. It is a
question-answer approach to helping students move towards career choices.
It can be accessed at www.myfuture.edu.au
OZJAC
OZJAC is the Australian Courses and
Careers Database. This is a very comprehensive database which allows
students to explore courses, careers, different occupations, industries,
the providers of different courses and an extensive amount of other general
information. The information covers every Australian state so is very
useful for researching interstate university courses, for example.
Melbourne Girls Grammar students can access the OZJAC database by selecting
it from the ‘Careers Links’ on the ‘O drive' on their laptops or by using
the computers in the Careers Centre.
The Job Guide
The
Job Guide is an
Australian Government publication and lists more than 1,000 occupations as
well as useful information about how to plan your career, look for work and
find training pathways. Each job description offers a brief outline of what
the job involves, the personal requirements, education and training, recent
information about employment opportunities in the field, and contact points
for further information. Information on Apprenticeships, Traineeships,
employment conditions etc, may also be found in the Guide. It also contains
a ‘tear-out' supplement entitled ‘A Career Information Pack for Parents’,
designed to assist parents to provide help and advice to their children
about career planning. Every Year 10 girl is issued with a copy of the
current year's Job Guide. Copies are also available to students for loan
from the Careers Centre and can be accessed at www.jobguide.dest.gov.au
