Boarding House Structure

As schools move away from the ‘one size fits all' teaching practices of old, the organisation in the Boarding precinct ensures that at all times the individual needs of students are met.

The Boarding Houses offer a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in which the girls can grow in self-esteem and reach their full potential in all areas of School life.

Staff prefer the younger boarders to be in rooms with three others, sharing experiences and learning to live co-operatively with one another. Often these students are new boarders and the friendship and understanding of their peers ensures a smooth transition into boarding life. The Year 7 - 10 groups mix well, with the older girls of the group guiding and nurturing their younger ‘sisters'. To further strengthen the bonds between these boarders, the grouping of girls in each room is changed each term.

In their final year of school, the Year 12 boarders have their own rooms.  This allows each student to develop study patterns which work for them without disturbing other students. These senior girls support each other as they tackle the highs and lows of their final year of VCE.

Each House has its own laundry, kitchen for casual snacks and common rooms where girls are able to share experiences and relax.  ‘Prep’ or homework is undertaken in the students' own rooms. The younger year levels may also study in the library with a tutor, thus developing sound, disciplined study habits for senior years.

Boarding House Tutors care for the younger students, offering advice in the absence of parents and supervising bed time so that girls have plenty of rest for the next day.
